Bengaluru police are investigating a bomb hoax email sent to several institutions as an act of cyber terrorism

Published

Bengaluru cops have described the bogus bomb threat received by numerous Bengaluru schools on Friday as an act of “cyber-terrorism.” Even though the threats were false, Bengaluru police have filed a report under the Information Technology (IT) Act 66. (F).

Anyone who seeks to jeopardize India’s unity, integrity, security, or sovereignty, or instill terror in the general public or any portion of the general public, is subject to the act. Anyone who conducts or conspires to commit cyber terrorism faces prison time, which may include life.

Despite disrupting instructional operations, the police stated they are taking the case very seriously since it caused panic and anxiety among school administrators, students, parents, and the general public. As a consequence, the police have accelerated the investigation and evidence collecting in the case by submitting comprehensive details of the occurrence to several investigating organizations.

Bengaluru city’s Additional Police Commissioner (East), Subramanyeshwar Rao, indicated that the perpetrators of the fake bomb case will be captured soon and that critical information would be acquired. “Once the criminals behind the hoax bomb case are apprehended, the aim and goals will be revealed. “At this time, the case is under investigation, and nothing more can be disclosed,” Rao added.

E-mail bomb threats are received by many Bengaluru schools.

Several schools in Bengaluru received bomb threats on April 8, as you may recall. According to a senior official, the letter alerting schools to the placed explosives was distributed via emails that looked identical. Bengaluru City Police ordered the schools to be evacuated immediately, and a bomb disposal unit was dispatched to the vicinity to conduct further searches.

The emails with the bomb threat were sent to six schools: Delhi Public School in Sulakunte, Gopalan International School in Mahadevapura, New Academy School in Marathahalli, Ebenezer International School in Electronic City, St Vincent Pallotti School in Hennur, and Indian Public School in Govindapura.

“A strong bomb has been installed in your school, notice it is not a prank, this is not a joke, a very deadly bomb has been planted in your school, immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer, including yours, do not delay,” police told the media.

Tensions were high at all of the schools as a result of the messages, and the buildings were evacuated. The cops were sent, and they were at the schools within minutes to check the emails’ legitimacy.

The pupils were all sent home, and their parents were informed of the situation.

On Tuesday, Al-Qaeda made a statement on Karnataka’s hijab dispute, prompting the bomb threat in Bengaluru. Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri had expressed support for burqa-clad protestor Bibi Muskan Zainab Khan, who was at the center of the state’s hijab controversy.

Police have concluded that the bomb threat seems to be a fake based on their preliminary investigation.
