Shinde Signals No Relief for Defeated Sena Candidates in Navi Mumbai Nominations

Published

on

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has taken a firm stand on the issue of nominated corporators in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, indicating that party candidates who were defeated in the recent civic elections will not be considered for nomination.

Following the declaration of results, several senior Shiv Sena leaders who lost their corporator elections were hoping to secure entry into the civic body through the provision of approved (nominated) corporator posts. However, party sources have confirmed that Shinde has clearly conveyed his opposition to accommodating defeated candidates through this route.

According to insiders, Shinde has emphasized that nominated posts should be used to strengthen the organization by giving opportunities to committed party workers, social contributors and fresh faces who actively worked for the party but were not given tickets or had no opportunity to contest. The leadership believes that rewarding candidates rejected by voters could send the wrong message and undermine public trust.

The decision is also being seen in the context of the recent Navi Mumbai elections, where several leaders who switched to the Shinde-led Shiv Sena shortly before the polls failed to win. Their defeat has weakened their claim for nominated positions, despite their past experience in civic politics.

While formal discussions on the final list of nominated corporators are still underway, Shinde’s position has brought clarity within party ranks. Political observers note that the move reflects an effort to align organizational decisions with voter sentiment and to project internal discipline ahead of future local and state-level elections.

The final announcement on nominated corporators is expected in the coming days.
