Uran Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Polls See Rush of Nominations

Published

on

Political activity in Uran picked up significantly with the filing of nomination forms for the 2026 Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections. A total of 75 nomination papers were submitted on Wednesday, reflecting keen interest and intense competition among political parties and independent candidates.

According to election officials, 46 nominations were filed for the eight Panchayat Samiti constituencies, while 29 candidates submitted papers for the four Zilla Parishad seats in the Uran region of Raigad district. The large number of aspirants has turned the elections into a closely watched political battle.

The contest is being seen largely as a face-off between the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both sides treating the polls as a crucial test of their grassroots strength. Political observers have described the elections as a “mini assembly election”, as the results are expected to indicate shifting public sentiment ahead of future state-level contests.

In the previous Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections held in 2017, an alliance comprising Shiv Sena (then undivided), the Shetkari Kamgar Paksha and the Congress had performed strongly in the region, while the BJP had also secured a notable presence. Since then, changes in political alignments, resignations and by-elections have altered the local power balance.

With the nomination process completed, scrutiny of forms and the subsequent campaign phase will determine the final shape of the contest, as parties prepare for a closely fought election in Uran.
