Month-Long Cleanliness Drives were launched by NMMC in Navi Mumbai.
The Drive
In a commendable effort to instill hygiene awareness and values among students, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has launched a month-long campaign titled “Adopt Cleanliness, Drive Away Diseases.” The initiative began with a grand ceremony at NMMC School No. 92 in Kuksheth village, where students welcomed Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde with a traditional lezim performance.
The event was attended by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Prashant Jawade, Deputy Commissioners Dr. Ajay Gade, Smita Kade, Somnath Potre, Assistant Commissioner Jayant Jawdekar, and several municipal officials and educators.
As part of the campaign, awareness pamphlets on health and hygiene were distributed, and students participated in street plays promoting cleanliness. Commissioner Dr. Shinde administered a cleanliness oath to the students, emphasizing their vital role in making Navi Mumbai a leading clean city.
The campaign, which runs from July 1 to July 31, will engage approximately 3,000 students from various municipal schools. Activities include exhibitions showcasing disease prevention during the monsoon, lessons on proper handwashing, waste management, toilet hygiene, and water purification.
Addressing the students, Dr. Shinde highlighted the dangers of plastic use and the importance of environmental protection and tree plantation. He stressed that building values in children can lead to long-term success in cleanliness, plastic ban enforcement, and environmental conservation.
This campaign marks a significant step toward creating a healthier, more responsible generation.

Morbe Dam Water Storage Reaches 75.66%, Easing Supply Concerns
Steady monsoon downpours boost primary water reservoir for Navi Mumbai residents.
The Storage
In a major relief for Navi Mumbai residents, water levels at the Morbe Dam the primary drinking water source for the region have reached 75.66% of its total capacity, following consistent monsoon showers across its catchment area in Khalapur.
Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) officials confirmed that the rising water levels significantly reduce concerns over potential water cuts or supply disruptions in the coming months. The steady inflow has ensured a secure drinking water buffer for over 15 lakh residents across the city.
While the current stock is sufficient to meet daily demand well into early next year, civic engineers noted that sustained heavy downpours are still required for the reservoir to hit 100% capacity and overflow. NMMC continues to monitor catchment rainfall closely to optimize seasonal storage reserves.
