Thane Collector has been asked by Uddhav Thackeray to inspect the cutting of the Parsik hill slope in Belapur
The chief minister has submitted the slope cutting matter to the Thane collector, in response to a persistent effort by environmentalists and local people. After filing the fifth complaint with the CMO, the NatConnect director said, “We received a message from the chief minister indicating that the matter has been submitted to the district collector for further action.” “According to our understanding, the district collector has complete authority to interfere to prevent further harm to the hills. As a result, we’ve asked the Thane district collector to put a halt to the devastation “Kumar stated his opinion.
Kumar pointed out that full-grown trees have been cut and burned down, and flower pots are being lined up the hill slope in the guise of beauty, supplying photographic evidence of the hill’s continuous devastation. At the bottom of the hill, two big advertising hoardings have been erected. Thackeray has already requested that the Forest and Urban Development Department Secretaries investigate the situation. P Venugopal Reddy, the Forest Secretary, has also urged the Chief Conservator of Forests to investigate. Abhijit Bangar, the Municipal Commissioner of Navi Mumbai, has directed his officials to investigate the matter. “However, there has been no action, and this appears to be a case of passing the buck.”
“Landslides during rainstorms, depletion of water storage capacity, and, most importantly, a tremendous threat to residential buildings might result in massive environmental devastation.” Cidco was given 200 plots, with a hundred of them being filled by multi-story structures. “We’ve been protesting for two months, and all we’ve heard is that the relevant officials are being questioned,” Kumar expressed sadness. In the presence of Waterman of India Dr. Rajendra Singh, who met with the official last week, the greens discussed the issue with Konkan Divisional Commissioner Vilas Patil. The tragedy is that the destruction is occurring immediately adjacent to the Sion-Panvel roadway, which is used by numerous government officials.
Kumar said that the property is also close to Cidco and the Konkan Divisional Headquarters. According to an NMMC official, the civic body is planting trees with the support of corporate social responsibility funding. “This is an entirely unnecessary endeavor because the hill is inherently gorgeous,” said Parsik Hill Residents Association president Jayant Thakur. The NMMC, on the other hand, claims it has nothing to do with the slopes’ cutting and digging. Under the pretense of so-called beautification, digging with huge JCB equipment is risky, Thakur added.

Gold Chains Worth ₹10.5 Lakh Stolen at Rolling Loud India; Four Attendees File Complaints
A series of thefts marred the two-day Rolling Loud India music festival held in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, after four attendees reported that their gold chains—collectively valued at Rs 10.50 lakh—were stolen amid the massive crowd. The incidents occurred on Sunday evening, between 6 pm and 10 pm, during peak performances when thousands of fans had gathered near the stages.
According to police officials, the victims stated that their chains were forcibly pulled off their necks in the dense crowd without their notice. All four individuals have lodged formal complaints at the Kharghar Police Station, prompting authorities to begin an investigation. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage, analyzing crowd movement, and checking for known pickpocket groups that typically target large gatherings.
The thefts have raised concerns about the security arrangements at the international festival, which saw heavy footfall throughout the weekend. This is not the first time such incidents have been reported at major concerts in the Mumbai region, with similar cases emerging during previous large-scale events.
Besides the thefts, attendees took to social media to express dissatisfaction over event logistics, particularly the significant distance between the two main stages, which made moving between performances difficult amid the crowd.
The police have assured attendees that efforts are underway to identify the culprits and recover the stolen jewellery. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
