With immediate effect India reinstates the tourist visas

Published

on

According to news agency ANI, the government on Wednesday restored all valid five-year e-tourist visas to nationals of 156 countries, which had been suspended since March 2020 because of the Covid epidemic. According to existing rules, citizens of these countries will be eligible for the granting of new e-visas for visitors.

The administration also stated that valid normal (paper) long-term (10-year) tourist visas for the US and Japanese citizens will be restored, as well as the issuance of new visas to people of both nations.

According to ANI, “the government took the measure in light of the improvement in the Covid-19 situation in the country and the need for further relaxing of visa and travel restrictions,” the home ministry stated.

Tourists and e-tourists can only enter India through specified sea or air immigration checkpoints, such as those under the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ or ‘air bubble’ system, or by aircraft approved by the civil aviation ministry.

Foreign nationals with tourist or e-tourist visas will not be able to enter across land or riverine borders, according to the home ministry.

The guidelines will not apply to Afghan nationals, who will continue to be governed by separate home ministry regulations for the award of an e-emergency x-misc visa.

The government announced last week that regular foreign passenger flights, excluding ‘air bubble’ transactions, will resume on March 27.

These flights, according to the civil aviation ministry, will continue to be subject to the rules established by the health ministry for overseas travel, if applicable.

“We have decided to restart overseas travel on March 27 after consulting with stakeholders and taking into account the drop in Covid caseloads. ‘Air bubble’ arrangements will be canceled as well… I am certain that the sector will achieve new heights as a result of this initiative!” Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of aviation, took to Twitter.
