Pushkar Dhami the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has resigned

Published

on

Lieutenant General (retired) Gurmit Singh, the Governor of Uttarakhand, accepted Pushkar Singh Dhami’s resignation as Chief Minister on Friday. Dhami lost the election in Khatima, but the BJP made history by winning a second straight term in Uttarakhand. After leaving the Raj Bhawan, he spoke to the media and announced that the Governor had asked him to serve as caretaker CM till a new administration was sworn in.

Dhami Pushkar stated, “Since we’ve been given a new mandate and our current term is up, I’ve given Governor my resignation, as well as the resignations of the Cabinet. He advised me to keep going until the new administration was sworn in. People have shown us their affection, and the consequences have been extraordinary.”

According to sources, the BJP has named Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan as observers who are expected to arrive in the state soon. According to sources, both of these observers would weigh in on the newly elected MLAs’ choice for the position of CM. The BJP’s high command will make a final decision in this matter, amid rumors that Dhami could yet win re-election.

In Uttarakhand, the BJP pulls off a stunning victory.

On February 14, voters in Uttarakhand voted to the polls in a single phase for all 70 seats. The Congress was hoping to capitalize on the fact that the BJP had changed two chief ministers in four months in 2021. Trivendra Singh Rawat served as the state’s Chief Minister until March 9, 2021, when he resigned due to a decision made by the BJP’s senior echelon. His successor, Lok Sabha MP Tirath Singh Rawat, was only in office for a few months before being replaced by Dhami in July since the Election Commission was unlikely to hold a by-election due to the COVID-19 scenario.

Despite exit polls showing a close contest between the BJP and the Congress, the former secured a clear majority of 47 seats with a 44.33 percent vote share. Though the Sonia Gandhi-led party’s vote share increased from 33.5 percent to 37.91 percent in 2017, their seat tally climbed a little from 11 to 19 seats. The BSP, on the other hand, won two seats despite having only a minor presence in the state. Colonel (retd.) Ajay Kothiyal, the AAP’s CM candidate, was defeated by BJP’s Suresh Singh Chauhan. While Harish Rawat, the former chief minister, lost in Lalkuwa, his daughter Anupama Rawat won in Haridwar Rural.
