Mamata Banerjee announces retirement of Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay

Published

Amidst the tensions between the Central government and West Bengal over Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has now stooped down to playing petty games. After refusing to relieve Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Mamata Banerjee announced his retirement from the post of the state’s chief secretary. This move was clearly taken to ignore the central government’s order to release him for further posting at the Centre.

“Since Alapan Bandyopadhyay has retired today on May 31 from his service, he is not going to join in Delhi,” Mamata said, adding that he will continue as the chief advisor to CM for the next three years.

I will not allow him (Alapan Bandyopadhyay) to leave Nabanna. He is now the Chief Advisor to Chief Minister. We have appointed HK Dwivedi as the new Chief Secretary and BP Gopalika as the new Home Secretary,” Mamata Banerjee told the media.

Interestingly, Mamata Banerjee herself had requested the central government to allow Alapan Bandyopadhyay to continue as the Chief Secretary of the state for another three months. Accordingly, Bandyopadhyay’s tenure was extended as the chief secretary by the central government on May 24.

Maharashtra Govt Rejects Navi Mumbai Police Restructuring Plan, Revised Proposal Submitted

Published

on

The Maharashtra government has turned down a restructuring plan proposed by the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate aimed at improving operational efficiency and addressing the needs of the city’s growing population.

The long-pending proposal sought the creation of an additional zone (Zone-3, led by a DCP-level officer), two new divisions under ACP-level officers, and the bifurcation of existing police stations to establish four new ones. At present, the Navi Mumbai Police operates with two zones.

Following the state government’s lukewarm response, the police have now submitted a revised proposal. This updated plan includes the creation of a separate zone, two additional divisions, and a dedicated police station for the Navi Mumbai International Airport. A decision from the Home Department is expected soon.

With Navi Mumbai experiencing rapid expansion, the existing police structure has struggled to keep pace with rising law and order challenges. Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe initially proposed the restructuring to enhance the force’s efficiency and responsiveness to evolving security needs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Sanjay Kumar Patil emphasized the urgency of the proposal, stating, “Considering Navi Mumbai’s geography, rising crime rates, population growth, and industrial expansion, we have submitted a revised plan and hope for swift approval from the state government.”

Authorities and citizens alike await the government’s decision, which could significantly impact the city’s policing capabilities in the years to come.
