In money laundering case Nawab Maliks detention has been increased

Published

on

Nawab Malik, a Maharashtra minister, will now be held in the Enforcement Directorate’s custody till March 7. After being detained on February 23 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the minister was placed in the ED’s custody till March 3 before a special court in Mumbai.

“The accused’s statement could not be recorded since he was in the hospital. The accused is remanded in ED custody till March 7, based on fresh facts presented by the ED “Judge Rahul Rokde stated the following. Malik’s appeal to challenge his remand and seek freedom was similarly denied by the court.

While demanding the minister’s continued detention, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh stated that Nawab Malik had complained of health issues and had been sent for a medical check-up. The minister was admitted to the hospital on February 25 and released on February 28, Singh informed the court, adding that his statement could not be recorded at this time.

The ED maintained in its remand copy in the last session that Nawab Malik had provided Rs 55 lakh in cash to fugitive terrorist Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar for a three-acre land in Mumbai’s Kurla 20 years ago.

The agency’s remand copy, which was filed with the court today, included the following clarification: It was a typographical error that cost Rs 55 lakh. It cost a total of Rs 5 lakh.

“They came to this court with a lot of claims regarding my client’s involvement in an underground gang in the previous application. They presented a formal application alleging that he is involved in terror financing. They said Haseena Parkar was handed Rs 55 lakh in cash and so linked it to the mafia. They have since clarified that the amount of Rs 55 lakh was a typographical error. They claim it should be Rs 5 lakh because I’ve lost six days “Amit Desai, along with attorneys Kushal Mor and Tarah Sayyed, argued on behalf of the minister.

“Today, a typographical mistake is being told. The court’s conscience should be shaken by this. Then they appear in court respectfully and ask for more time. Please don’t hurry towards arresting individuals while dealing with liberty. They provide a valuable service, but people’s rights are vital. Every citizen should not be regarded as if they were a criminal “Desai went on to say more.

In response, Anil Singh contended, “That amount is in a witness statement, and it was incorrectly recorded as Rs 55 lakh in the remand copy. We were not aware of our error till someone pointed it out to us. As a result, we had to fix it on the remand to look fairly in court. The ruling does not include the Rs 55 lakh.”

Nawab Malik, a Maharashtra cabinet minister, was detained on February 23 in the agency’s South Mumbai headquarters after almost five hours of questioning in connection with a money laundering case and his claimed ties to Dawood Ibrahim.
