If You Have Courage… Arvind Kejriwal challenges the BJP to hold the Delhi civic elections on time

Published

on

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal blasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for delaying the notification of civil polls in Delhi. He expressed his unhappiness over the Municipal Corporation Elections being postponed, saying that while the BJP claims to be the world’s largest party, it frightened and fled from a tiny Aam Aadmi Party. The Union Cabinet passed a bill on Tuesday that would consolidate Delhi’s three civic bodies, North, East, and South.

Speaking to media outside the Delhi Assembly, Kejriwal further stated that if the saffron party wins the polls on time, his party will leave politics.

“BJP apane aap ko duniya ki sabse badee party kehte hai,” the Delhi CM wrote in a sequence of koos. ‘Kamaal hai,’ says the narrator. Aam Aadmi Party se ghabra ke bhag gayi? Duniya ki sabse badee party  MCD ke chunav time pe karava ke dikhao (BJP claims to be the world’s largest political party.) Wonderful. In a panic, the world’s largest party fled from a small Aam Aadmi Party? Hold MCD elections on time if you have the fortitude).”

“The BJP is delaying the MCD polls, which are being supported by all three Delhi corporations.” Is it feasible that as a result of this, elections may be postponed? Is it possible for them to avoid declaring that they are merging Gujarat and Maharashtra if Gujarat falls tomorrow? Is it possible to postpone the Lok Sabha elections on this pretext?” Kejriwal interrogated the situation.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, and East Delhi Municipal Corporation are currently all under BJP control in Delhi.

In Delhi’s three municipal corporations, North, East, and South, the BJP won 181 seats out of 270 in the 2017 MCD elections. With 48 seats, the AAP came in second, followed by the Congress with 29 seats.

The AAP has petitioned the Supreme Court to intervene in the Delhi MCD elections.

The AAP recently petitioned the Supreme Court, requesting that the State Election Commission (SEC) conduct the Delhi Municipal Elections in a free, fair, and timely manner. In their petition, the AAP asked the Supreme Court to provide directives for the MCD elections to be scheduled “without any intervention from the Central government.”
