Fast Food Franchise Attempts To Take Over As McDonalds Announces Suspension Of Russia Operations

Published

on

Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unjustified military attack against Ukraine, several well-known companies, including Coca-Cola, Starbucks, and McDonald’s, have temporarily or permanently halted business in Moscow. McDonald’s, which has over 840 locations across Russia, is one of the major consumer products firms that has ceased operations in Moscow, joining a long list of fast-food chains. In a significant development, it has now been revealed that Uncle Vanya, a Russian fast-food business, is attempting to replace McDonald’s shortly after the Chicago-based firm announced the temporary suspension of its operations in Russia.

As per sources in the media, the Russian-based firm recently submitted a patent application to trademark its emblem, which has a remarkable resemblance to the iconic Golden Arches sign. Notably, the new Russian fast-food chain’s new design has a striking resemblance to the McDonald’s emblem, which has been flipped on its side and an extra line added to make a B shape.

Amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a Russian fast-food business attempts to take over McDonald’s.

It’s worth noting that Moscow has stripped patent holders from “unfriendly” nations of their protection. Following the suspension of foreign corporations’ activity in Russia, this development occurred. McDonald’s had previously stated in a statement, “It’s hard to say when we’ll be able to reopen our locations in Russia at this point. We are facing supply chain interruptions as well as other operational issues.”

However, according to Russia’s Interfax news agency, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin suggested that this home-grown fast-food chain might soon replace all McDonald’s outlets, even though the corporation has yet to say whether or when it would reopen its networks. Sobyanin claims that Uncle Vanya uses 99 percent Russian-made ingredients and that it is superior to the American brand. According to reports, Moscow’s municipal council gave local fast-food businesses 500 million rubles after some major brands boycotted the country in protest of the violence.

Vyacheslav Volodin, Russia’s State Duma speaker, said lawmakers last week that Uncle Vanya should take the place of McDonald’s, according to the Independent. McDonald’s has shut down its Russian operations for the first time in 30 years. The burger behemoth from Chicago just said that it will continue to pay “62,000 employees who have poured their heart and soul into our McDonald’s brand to serve their communities.”
