Published

on

Roopa Ganguly, a BJP member of Parliament, sobbed in the Rajya Sabha on Friday as she spoke of the violence in Bengal’s Birbhum district, where eight people were cruelly assaulted and then burned to death.

Roopa Ganguly, a Rajya Sabha member, made an emotional appeal in parliament to impose President’s rule in West Bengal, claiming that the state is no longer livable. She went on to say that people were fleeing Bengal because they were afraid.

“In West Bengal, we demand President’s Rule.” “Mass killings are taking place there, people are fleeing… the state is no longer liveable,” actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly stated, expressing alarm over West Bengal’s deteriorating law and order situation.

“In West Bengal, people are unable to communicate. The killers are being protected by the government. No other place has a government that executes people after winning elections. We are all humans. Roopa Ganguly went on to say, “We don’t do stone-hearted politics.”

The Calcutta High Court had ordered a CBI investigation into the incident in Birbhum’s Rampurhat block earlier in the day. Until now, the case was being investigated by an SIT created by Mamata Banerjee’s government in the state.

The CBI has been ordered to file a progress report by April 7 by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court, consisting of Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice R Bharadwaj.

On March 23, the Calcutta High Court directed the state government to conduct a thorough investigation of the case and to submit the case diary as well as a report on the investigation so far. The judge also gave instructions on how to keep evidence and the crime scene safe.

The situation must be regularly monitored by CCTV cameras, according to the court. A team from the CFSL in Delhi will also visit the scene to collect forensic evidence, according to the Calcutta High Court.

Massacre of Birbhum

Unidentified miscreants set a dozen houses on fire, resulting in the deaths of at least eight persons. The incident occurred in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, specifically in the Rampurhat area.

The West Bengal police found seven bodies in a single residence, which were taken to the Rampurhat Medical College Hospital. According to reports, the criminals chained the houses outside before torching them, leaving little space for the residents to flee.

The incident occurred following the assassination of Bhadu Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) official. On Monday, a panchayat member was allegedly targeted with crude bombs while seated in a shop on National Highway-60 (March 21).

In connection with the violence in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, at least 20 persons have been arrested so far.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Ministry has requested a comprehensive report from the state administration on the occurrence. The Birbhum atrocity has also been taken suo moto by the Calcutta High Court. After 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a bench consisting of Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj will hear the case.
