After the announcement of AUKUS weapon treaty China has warned of a Ukraine-like disaster

China’s UN representative, Zhang Jun, spoke out against the AUKUS collaboration on hypersonic weapons development on Tuesday. Jun cautioned of “things that may bring other areas of the globe into turmoil” when discussing a possible hypersonic weapons pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, saying that the AUKUS countries should avoid a “Ukraine-like disaster.”

Jun slammed the recent agreement and asked the AUKUS member countries to abandon hypersonic weapons development. He warned that countries collaborating to build hypersonic weapons risk triggering another “Ukraine-style catastrophe.” The Chinese ambassador also chastised Western countries for agreeing to a pact that they did not support.

Regarding the AUKUS hypersonic agreement, Zhang stated, “Anyone who does not want to see the Ukrainian crisis should resist doing things that may lead to a similar catastrophe in other areas of the world.”

“If you don’t like it, don’t force it on others,” he remarked, referring to the countries. The remarks come after the AUKUS countries announced on Tuesday that they will work together to create new hypersonic and electronic warfare weapons.

Hypersonic weaponry will be developed by AUKUS.

The AUKUS partners stated they’ll collaborate to develop improved hypersonic and counter-hypersonic capabilities in a joint statement released on Tuesday. They also reaffirmed their resolve to work together on improving electronic warfare methods.

“We reiterated our commitment to AUKUS and a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the statement said. We emphasized our steadfast commitment to an international system that respects human rights, the rule of law, and the peaceful settlement of conflicts without coercion in light of Russia’s unprovoked, unjustifiable, and unlawful invasion of Ukraine,” the statement continued.

The grouping’s existing measures to raise collaboration on cyber capabilities, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and new underwater capabilities will be supplemented by these activities, according to the statement.

AUKUS is a trilateral security alliance formed by Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which was declared in September to confront China in the Indo-Pacific area.

Hypersonic missiles, which move at Mach 5, are recognized for their incredible maneuverability. They travel at a speed five times that of sound and have the unusual ability to change directions while flying.
