According to official papers, the Central Public Works Department will transplant 487 trees as part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan to create an ‘Executive Enclave.’

The new Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat, India House, and the National Security Council Secretariat will all be housed in the Executive Enclave.

According to a revised proposal for environmental clearance for the Rs 1,381-crore project, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) recently informed the Delhi state-level Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) that it would maintain 1,022 trees on the site, with one tree per 80 square meters of the plot area, as per the Union environment ministry’s guidelines.

The SEAC recommended to the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) on April 9 to provide environmental clearance for the project, which would be built on an 81,808-square-meter plot.

The SEAC had urged the CPWD to enhance the number of trees to be kept at the site during a meeting on January 31.

“It is planned that around 80% of the present trees be destroyed. This is a ridiculously large quantity “According to the SEAC.

The CPWD updated the concept in response to the SEAC’s suggestions, raising the number of trees to be kept at the site from 154 to 320.

The revised plan estimates that there are 807 trees on the property, up from 784 in the previous assessment.

The CPWD also informed the panel that 397 of the 487 trees that would be moved will be planted at Raj Ghat and 90 on a nearby site.

According to the SEAC, the project proponent will keep 320 trees on the site and plant an additional 702 trees to achieve the tree per 80 square meters of plot area requirement.

At the NTPC in Badarpur, the CPWD will plant 4,870 trees as compensation.

The Central Vista, the nation’s power corridor, will be redeveloped to include a new parliament building, a common central secretariat, and a revamped 3-kilometer Rajpath from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate, a new prime minister’s office and house, and a new vice president enclave.
