WHOs suspension of Covaxin: Bharat Biotech clarifies that it has nothing to do with safety

Published

on

Bharat Biotech clarified on Monday that the World Health Organization (WHO) had suspended the supply of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin via United Nations Agencies on Saturday, April 02 and that the feedback provided by the global health organization would be looked into and the necessary modifications made.

The Hyderabad-based vaccine maker has dispelled any reservations about the COVID-19 vaccine’s safety and efficacy. The business claimed that the WHO’s post-Emergency Use Listing revisions were based on a regular assessment of the vaccine and that the global health monitoring agency had stated nothing about the vaccinations’ safety and efficacy.

Covaxin export through UN agencies has been halted by the WHO.

“I got some criticism, and I’m going to make those changes.” On Monday, Bharat Biotech added, “It’s (WHO after EUL inspection) a routine inspection for Covaxin.”

WHO reported on Saturday that it had blocked the export of India’s indigenous vaccine to various countries via UN agencies and that the manufacturer had been ordered to improve the product and rectify faults discovered during post-Emergency Use Listing testing. The WHO statement also noted that the recipient countries had been asked to take suitable activities, although the words were cryptic, as they did not specify what action should be taken.

Significantly, following the suspension of Coronavirus vaccine export, the WHO clarified all issues made about the vaccine’s safety and efficacy. There are no concerns about the inactive vaccine’s safety or efficacy, according to the WHO. It had also predicted that the restriction of exports would disrupt its global supply.

As the pandemic fades, Bharat Biotech reduces output.

This comes after Bharat Biotech said on Friday, April 1, that it would temporarily slow vaccine production due to planned maintenance of manufacturing facilities. After fulfilling its supply obligations and anticipating a decline in vaccination demand, the corporation has made its choice. Bharat Biotech has now decided to concentrate its efforts on facility and process maintenance, as well as optimization activities. After all of the facilities were engaged in continuous manufacturing of the Covaxin to meet the urgent demand from the public health emergency requirements, the planned renovations were long overdue.
