Two Mumbai Metro Corridors Have Been Approved For Safety
Both the Dahisar-DN Nagar Metro-2A line and the Dahisar East-Andheri East Metro-7 are the two metro routes that are likely to receive safety approval by the end of March, paving the way for both to start operations in mid-April, according to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Metro-2A runs between Dahisar East and DN Nagar, Andheri via the Linking Road, and Metro-7 runs parallel to Metro-2A on the Western Express Highway (WEH) between Dahisar East and Andheri East. The Commissioner of Railway Safety issues a safety certificate for any metro line after repeated evaluations and inspections (CRS).
The trial runs for both routes are nearly complete, according to MMRDA officials.
According to MMRDA authorities, both corridors’ trial runs have been finished, and inspections are nearing completion. “Around two to three days of inspection by the CRS is pending,” a senior MMRDA official said, “and after that, we anticipate acquiring safety certification from CRS by the end of the month.” We will be able to begin in the following four to five days after we receive authorization from the CRS. However, we are now aiming for a mid-April deadline to open the first phase of both Metro-2A and Metro-7 to the general public.”
Metro-2A’s first phase runs between Dahisar and Dahanukarwadi, whereas Metro-7’s first phase runs between Dahisar and Aarey Colony. “We have roughly 11 trains of six coaches for operations for both metro routes,” the MMRDA official continued, “and we will employ around eight to nine in operations, with the balance on standby.” The frequency will be roughly 10 minutes, and it will run for 18 to 19 hours a day, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.”
The red line 7 from Andheri East to Dahisar East and the yellow line 2A from Dahisar West to DN Nagar of the Mumbai Metro began construction in 2016. Srinivas stated that when the construction on the 2A and 7 corridors was postponed, “We’ve expanded the number of teams working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We’ve started simultaneous work for multiple phases of the ongoing project, rather than sequential work, when the project is completed one after the other.”
