The seventh flight of Operation Ganga is on its way to Bucharest

India has dispatched its seventh evacuation flight to return trapped citizens from Ukraine’s war-torn country home. Today, at 1.50 p.m., an Air India Express flight departed Mumbai and is due to arrive in Bucharest, Romania’s capital, at 6.15 p.m. (9.45 pm IST).

Up to 182 Indian people are likely to return home on the trip. It will leave Bucharest at 7.15 p.m. local time (10.45 p.m. IST) for India, arriving in Mumbai at 9.30 a.m. the following day (March 1).

A rescue flight is part of Operation Ganga, India’s endeavour to return its trapped citizens from Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the East European country. For the evacuation, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) established an independent Twitter handle and 24-hour control centres on Sunday.

Because Ukraine’s airspace has been shut down owing to the confrontation with Russia, India is presently evacuating its citizens by transporting them by land to Ukraine’s neighbours – Romania, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia – and then flying them out from there.

The Indian government has so far organised six flights for the repatriation process as part of Operation Ganga. Five have returned to India, carrying with them a total of 1,156 Indians from Bucharest or Budapest, Hungary’s capital.

S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, has been tweeting information on all of the planes.

He claimed earlier in the day that the sixth flight from Budapest had departed with 240 Indian people on board. It is slated to arrive in Delhi the following day.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to dispatch four ministers to Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Slovakia, and Poland to assist with the evacuation of Indians.

Federal law minister Kiren Rijiju will visit Slovakia, aerospace minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will oversee Moldova and Romania, petroleum and housing minister Hardeep Singh Puri will visit Hungary, and VK Singh, the minister of state for transportation and highways, will oversee evacuations from Poland.

The ministers will embark on their assignment tonight.
