Residents will form a silent mass movement to protest loud explosions

Published

Local citizens and environmentalists have organised a “silent human chain” on Sunday morning to protest the blasting at the site as inhabitants of high-rise buildings along the creek at CBD Belapur continue to feel “earthquake-like vibrations” caused by high-intensity blasts at the NMIA site. According to Rohit Agarwal, secretary of Arenja Cooperative Housing Society, the human chain would be built along the jogging track in sector 15, CBD-Belapur. Several housing complexes, including Sai Vihar and Belle Vista, have also reported unsettling noises with the high-intensity blasts at the airport building site in addition to Arenja CHS. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Eknath Shinde are two of the individuals we have complained to. In response to the explosions, we have now decided to organise a human chain, according to Belle Vista CHS’s C D Gupta.

B N Kumar, director of NatConnect Foundation, claims that distant Vashi and Turbhe may hear explosions throughout late nights and even early mornings. The CM’s office promised to take action in response to Kumar’s petition, and he said, “The human chain will be peaceful and silent; we will not shout any slogans since our silence would have to be heard loudly by the careless authorities.” According to activist Shubhangi Tirodkar, who resides in sector 15 of CBD-Belapur, “the event will be to demonstrate our unity and raise notice of the authorities to the fact that many buildings have developed fractures and window panes break owing to the loud explosions each time.”

The explosions, according to Suryakant Pandey of Sai Vihar CHS, have also created fissures in his structure. He said, “The frequency of bursts is also pretty alarming.” Netra Shirke, a former councilwoman from Seawoods, expressed sympathy for the locals and argued that the airport should lessen the force of the explosions so as not to hurt nearby structures or homes. In the meanwhile, in response to concerns from environmental organisations over the powerful explosions, the CMO urged the Urban Development Department to check into the situation as well. The state’s aviation secretary, Valsa Nair Singh, had been tasked with investigating the accusations by the CM previously.
