BJP leader Nalin Kohli called the threats made by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Naren Chakraborty to BJP supporters a “murder of democracy.” He went on to say that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should first ensure that she is in charge of her administration before sending letters to raise any issues. An MLA from the Pandabeshwar Constituency in the Hooghly District was previously reported as openly threatening voters in the state.

On a threat made by a TMC MLA to BJP members, Nalin Kohli says:

“This is incredible. This is a democratic assassination. In West Bengal, there is a fearful environment. Supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are being burned alive. Mamata can easily raise complaints by writing letters, but it makes little difference. Before drafting these letters, Mamata Ji should ensure that the government is in order “According to the BJP leader.

The BJP wants a TMC MLA arrested for blatantly threatening voters.

The BJP wrote to the West Bengal police on Tuesday, pleading with them to register an FIR and arrest TMC MLA Naren Chakraborty for his threats to BJP supporters.

“Naren Chakraborty, MLA Pandaveswar has engaged a grave criminal offence by his act of such terrible and terrifyingly statement, which is seriously a punishable offence and also a direct attack on democracy, the Constitution of India, and the mandate of the Election Commission of India,” the BJP wrote in a letter to the West Bengal police.

In West Bengal, a TMC legislator has threatened BJP voters.

“To the BJP followers, if you vote, you’re on your own; if you don’t vote, we’ll assume you’re with us…then you can live in peace.” He asked in Bengali, “Are you sure?”

The incident occurred a day after the BJP claimed that their MLAs were thrashed when they demanded a discussion on the Birbhum violence in the West Bengal Assembly. TMC MLAs assaulted many BJP MLAs, including LoP Suvendu Adhikari and Chief Whip Manoj Tigga, according to BJP IT chief Amit Malviya, who shared a video of the fight. The Birbhum violence is being investigated by the CBI.

After the murder of TMC deputy panchayat chief Bhadu Sheikh, violence erupted in Birbhum’s Rampurhat, killing eight people.
