NMMC begins State-level wrestling tournament

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is ready to resume the long-standing practise of organising wrestling events in order to foster the growth of this most well-liked country pastime in this region after a two-season break brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. Top male and female wrestlers from across the state are anticipated to compete for the top prizes in several categories. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will host the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Kesari State Level and District Level Wrestling Tournament on February 25 and 26, under the supervision of the state’s top wrestling organisation, Maharashtra Rajya Kustigir Parishad, Pune and Thane District Talim Sangh.

The recently renovated grounds at NMMC schools 76 and 105, which are situated near D-Mart in sector 7 of Ghansoli, will be the site of the two-day sporting spectacular. The top four winners in each group will receive a total prize fund of Rs 4 lakh. The main group’s state level champion will receive the top reward of Rs 1 lakh. In front of a local audience, wrestlers from Navi Mumbai have been given the ideal stage on which to display their skills. With the purpose of showcasing local talent, a specific category has been developed.

The winner of the state-level competition in the weight category of 74 kg to 100 kg will receive the top reward of Rs 1 lakh, followed by the winners of the second, third, and fourth places, who will receive Rs 60,000, Rs 40,000, and Rs 30,000, respectively. Rs 21, 000 has been set aside as the prize for winning the 55 to 65 kg state weight division. The main draw of the tournament will be the clash between the female competitors. In addition to state-level competitions, an unique division has been established for female competitors in the 50-55 kg weight range in Konkan Division competition.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.

The final day for filing nominations for the 2024 Vidhan Sabha General Election witnessed a surge of candidates in Thane district, with a total of 281 applications submitted across 18 assembly constituencies. This high turnout signals a competitive race for seats in the upcoming election.

Among the nominees, 114 candidates represent various political parties, while 167 have filed as independents, reflecting a diverse array of participants aiming to represent Thane’s voters.
