Turbhe MIDC Belt Emerges as Corporate Hub, Civic Infrastructure Lags Behind
Residents of Ward 20 raise concerns over roads, water supply and basic amenities ahead of NMMC polls.
The Concerns
Once known primarily as an industrial zone, the Turbhe MIDC belt stretching from Turbhe to Mindspace Juinagar has undergone a rapid transformation into a major IT and corporate hub. Now part of Ward No. 20, the area has seen factories give way to corporate offices, IT parks, showrooms and high-rise developments, making it a key centre for employment and commercial activity in Navi Mumbai.
However, with the 2026 Municipal Corporation elections approaching, residents allege that civic infrastructure has failed to keep pace with this rapid development. Ward 20, which includes Shiv Shakti Nagar, Turbhe MIDC, Indira Nagar, Shiravane gaon, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar and parts of the TTC Industrial Area, is facing mounting pressure due to population growth and a heavy daily influx of commuters.
The ward houses several major establishments such as Mindspace Juinagar, Zoetis Pharmaceutical, Godrej RMC Plant, Rupa Renaissance, ibis Navi Mumbai, the Tata Motors showroom in Nerul and numerous MIDC units, attracting thousands of workers each day. Local shopkeeper Sudhir Koteja said internal roads are in poor condition, with potholes, inadequate footpaths and no widening despite rising traffic. “Public transport connectivity suffers due to narrow and damaged roads,” he added.
Civic issues are more severe in slum pockets, where basic services remain inadequate. Residents of Indira Nagar, Shiv Shakti Nagar and parts of Shiravane complain of irregular water supply, forcing them to depend on uncertain timings, especially during summer months.
As elections near, citizens are demanding urgent intervention to improve road conditions, water supply, drainage, sanitation, pollution control, traffic management and the maintenance of public and community spaces to ensure better liveability in the rapidly changing ward.

Residents Raise Alarm Over Cigarette Sales to Students
Seawoods residents seek strict action against tobacco sales near educational institutions and public spaces.
The Cigarette Sales
Residents of Sector 25, Seawoods, Nerul, have raised concerns over students allegedly smoking in public places and the suspected sale of cigarettes to minors.
Following repeated complaints, the ward officer and local police conducted a raid at a paan shop on the ground floor of Ambika Heights on the night of September 11. Officials reportedly found cigarette cartons at the shop, but no other illegal intoxicating substances.
Residents said students, reportedly aged between 17 and 22, are frequently seen smoking near Seawoods railway station, the bridge and other public areas. They suspect that a local paan shop may be supplying cigarettes to college students. Prakash Yawalkar, president of the Seawoods Citizens Welfare Association, said students were openly smoking outside the shop, raising concerns among residents and parents.
The association has submitted complaints to the local police, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, mayor, local representatives and the Drug Department. It has urged authorities to strictly enforce the law prohibiting tobacco sales to minors and increase monitoring around schools, colleges and other student gathering points.
Residents said stronger action is needed to prevent tobacco use among young people and ensure that public spaces remain safe and healthy.
