The Protection

The officials in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) region have taken a major step to improve the preservation and protection of trees by hiring professionals with expertise in arborist and horticultural disciplines. The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, which requires the preservation and protection of urban trees, is in line with the recommendations for this stage.

In compliance with the June 24, 2021, Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Maharashtra, Government Circular No. Vrikshaka 2021/P.No.26/T.No.4, mandates that local tree authorities consult with certified experts on problems pertaining to trees. In order to avoid needless loss of tree cover, this guarantees that every decision to remove or chop down a tree is supported by professional advice.

The recently recruited specialists will be in charge of evaluating trees in both public and private spaces that are thought to be dangerous or that are impacted by construction projects.

As part of their responsibilities, they assess trees on-site to see if they can be saved in their existing position. In the event that relocation is required, they will make sure the tree is replanted using techniques that will increase its chances of survival. Furthermore, cutting-edge instruments like the Registrograph will be utilized to handle any pest or disease problems that are identified.

Asim Gokarn Harvansh, Nakul Savani, Gauravi Gopal Thasale, Hrithik Murudkar, and Vaibhav Raje are the specialists that have been chosen.

Additionally, residents demanding tree cutting in private sectors can speak with these specialists. Dr. Kailas Shinde, the Municipal Commissioner, highlights how important it is for the Parks Department and Tree Authority to make these appointments in order to preserve and improve Navi Mumbai’s tree richness.
