India joined UNSC as a non-permanent member for two years term. One step ahead towards world leadership.

As a grand victory,  India has been elected to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) as a non-permanent member for a two-year term on Wednesday (June 17) from the Asia-Pacific category.
India won the election with the absolute majority for the non-permanent seat in the powerful Security Council by garnering 184 votes out of the 192 ballots cast in the General Assembly. The minimum requirement to get elected was 128 votes. Besides India, three other countries, namely, Mexico, Norway and Ireland also won the elections.
The Security Council is comprised of 15 members- 5 permanent members viz. the US, the UK, Russia, France and China – and 10 non-permanent members. India will sit in the most cogent UN organ, for two years beginning on Jan 1, 2021, along with the aforementioned permanent members as a well as the non-permanent members- Niger, the Grenadines, Vietnam, Tunisia and Saint Vincent. This is 8th time that India will sit at the UN high-table. India has returned to the UNSC after a decade starting January 2021. The last time India served at the UNSC was between 2011 and 2012.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his thanks and said, “Deeply grateful for the overwhelming support shown by the global community for India’s membership of the UN Security Council. India will work with all member countries to promote global peace, security, resilience and equity.”
India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador TS Murti stated “I’m deeply humbled by the tremendous confidence which the member states of the United Nations have shown in India. India’s election to the Security Council is a ‘testament’ to PM Modi’s vision, and his inspiring global leadership, particularly in the time of Covid-19. We are confident in the COVID and post- COVID world India will continue to provide leadership and a new orientation for a reformed multilateral system.”
He further remarked that the profuse acceptance and enormous support that India has received in this election is a matter of pride and immense gratification for the whole nation.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.

Police officials confirmed that the chairman’s detention is part of an ongoing investigation into the incident. Residents are awaiting further action as authorities work to address the disturbance and ensure the safety of the community amid Diwali festivities.

The final day for filing nominations for the 2024 Vidhan Sabha General Election witnessed a surge of candidates in Thane district, with a total of 281 applications submitted across 18 assembly constituencies. This high turnout signals a competitive race for seats in the upcoming election.
