The NatConnect Foundation has launched a fresh initiative to increase environmental awareness among youngsters and their families in honor of World Environment Day. This initiative, which aims to create a closer bond between students, their parents, and ecological challenges, got underway with the founding of the Eco Club at Bright Future High School in Ulwe.

B N Kumar, Director of NatConnect, underlined the value of harnessing the student-parent interaction to promote environmental change. “If chocolate and biscuit companies can sway youngsters to change their parents’ spending patterns, why can’t we use this same strategy to change the way we view and engage with nature?” Kumar made a statement during the launch.

The goal of the Eco Club’s pilot program is to inform children and their families about the need to protect wetlands and mangroves. Engaging activities like flamingo boat rides and mangrove hikes will be part of the project to introduce participants to local ecosystems.

The chairman of Seawoods Prakalpgrast Shiksha Sanstha (SPSS), Ganesh Mhatre, commended NatConnect for its work, highlighting Navi Mumbai’s receipt of the Flamingo City badge. He emphasized the significance of being vigilant in the face of increasing urban and infrastructure expansion to prevent air pollution and water contamination.

Under the topic “The Importance of Learning To Live Sustainably,” students from Bright Future High School took part in a range of environmental awareness-raising exercises. These included creating seed balls, planting, creating posters, and performing skits that highlighted the value of energy efficiency and the environment.

The Eco Club’s mission is to inform children about environmental changes and foster an inquisitive spirit regarding ecological concerns, according to school principal Shahina Shaikh.
