In all nodes covered by PCMC, Cidco will not impose service fees
With effect from November 1, 2022, Cidco will no longer charge service fees in nodes transferred to PCMC. Cidco had been given the order to halt service fee collection by the urban development division under the direction of CM Eknath Shinde. Residents of the PCMC region began to protest the property tax notices, alleging double taxation and excessive property taxes. The PCMC will gradually receive the water supply services from the Cidco. In Navi Mumbai, Cidco has created the infrastructure for the nodes of New Panvel, Kalundre, Taloja, Kalamboli, Nawde, Kamothe, and Kharghar. Although PCMC was established on October 1st, 2016, its full takeover of nodes is not yet complete.
The final bill produced by Cidco to recoup service fees was valid until October 31, 2022. In order to transfer infrastructure facilities including solid waste management, roads, storm water drainage, walkways, drainage lines, and an energy supply network to the PCMC, Cidco will execute agreements with the PCMC. Many people have expressed their delight with the Cidco choice. The legal battle over property taxes will yet go on as certain members of society have argued that ceasing service fee collection will have no impact on the residents’ excessive property taxes. Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, vice president and managing director of Cidco, stated, “The decision was made in the context of Cidco handing over infrastructural facilities to the PCMC.
PCMC received seven nodes with infrastructure from Cidco. With effect from November 1, 2022, PCMC will henceforth be in charge of the development and maintenance of these nodes.
Retired commander HS Kalawat, general secretary of the Kharghar Housing Federation, stated, “It’s a natural choice given the transfer procedure was done between the two organisations in 2022. In our case to the Bombay high court, we claim that PCMC violated the law when it came to assessing property tax and did so retroactively.
