Cidco wants the Kharghar-Turbhe connection road approved by the government

Only after MSDRC put the construction of the 5.49-kilometer Kharghar Turbhe Link Road (KTLR) for direct connectivity between Turbhe and Kharghar International Corporate Park on hold due to a disagreement over the project’s funding by Cidco and MIDC authorities, the Cidco board on Monday decided to proceed with the project and bear the entire cost of Rs 1282.37 crore. Cidco then submitted a proposal to the state government’s urban development department (UDD) on Tuesday, seeking authorization to undertake the KTLR project. As a result, before beginning construction, Cidco will get the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

“Cidco has proposed that the Principal Secretary of State UDD select Cidco as the nodal agency for conducting the KTLR project,” stated Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Cidco managing director. As a result, preliminary project work has begun, including the amendment of MSRDC’s DPR (Detailed Project Report), legislative clearances, and design work.” “The KTLR project was required as an alternative route to decongest the significant traffic movement on the Sion-Panvel highway,” Mukherjee continued. Commuters traveling on the arterial Thane-Belapur Road will use the KTLR corridor as well.” “The KTLR corridor would create a link between the major Sion-Panvel highway and the International Corporate Park in Kharghar,” Cidco spokeswoman Gandhali Bhokare said.

The 1.763-kilometer-long tunnel, which will be part of the 5.490-kilometer-long KTLR, will run through the Kharghar hills, with raised approaches allowing direct communication between Turbhe and Kharghar. Cidco proposes upgrading a 3+3 lane road to a 4+4 lane road. It will save roughly 30 minutes of travel time between Kharghar and Turbhe. The process of hiring consultants to assess the viability of the project has also begun. Cidco would bear the whole cost of the KTLR project, which is expected to cost Rs 1282.37 crore. The KTLR project will not be shared by MSRDC and MIDC at this time.”
