In the NSE co-location scam case, a Delhi court on Monday remanded former National Stock Exchange chairman Chitra Ramkrishna in judicial custody for 14 days. Ramkrishna has been ducking questions and refusing to cooperate with the probe, according to the CBI. Ramkrishna’s defence lawyer requested home-cooked food during his judicial detention, but the court responded that the food in judicial custody is as good. According to Bar and Bench, the judge stated, “I have had the cuisine numerous times.” Permission for a prayer book and a mask was also requested, but the judge denied her request because she is not a VIP. “VIP detainees demand everything.

Then, and only then, should every rule be altered? Every detainee is the same. The judge stated, “She is not a VIP.”

The CBI appeared in court today to present Chitra, who was allegedly encouraged by a Himalayan yogi to install Anand Subramanian as the NSE’s group operating officer. Her seven-day detention period had ended today. Ramkrishna was apprehended by the investigation agency on March 6, a day after the court denied her anticipatory release motion.

Although the cases of Himalayan Yogi and co-location are distinct, they both feature the same characters.

What is the case for co-location? In May 2018, an FIR was filed alleging that some brokers were allowed early access to the markets. Brokers may host their servers on the grounds of the stock exchange, allowing them to access the markets more quickly. Some brokers are accused of abusing the algorithm and the co-location facility to achieve windfall profits in collusion with insiders.

What is the case of the Himalayan Yogi? Sebi, the capital markets regulator, has fined the NSE, Chitra Ramkrishna, and other former executives for recruitment mistakes. The NSE and its senior officials broke securities contract rules when they appointed Anand Subramanian as group operating officer and advisor to the managing director, according to the Sebi. In appointing Subramanian, Chitra Ramkrishna said she was motivated by a Himalayan Yogi.
