Whatever Happens To Rohit & Virat Is Not Good For Indian Cricket: Kambli

Published

on

On Thursday, former India cricketer Vinod Kambli challenged Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to set aside their egos and play as a team. Kambli used his official Koo account to remark that both Rohit and Virat are crucial to India’s success and that whatever is going on is “not good.” Ego disputes, according to Kambli, are detrimental for the Indian cricket team.

In regards to Rohit and Virat, they showed the strongest of bonds during the second One-Day International against the West Indies on Wednesday, putting an end to any rumours of a schism between the two. Both Rohit and Virat have emphasised on multiple occasions that their friendship is fantastic and that they have no problems.

Virat and Rohit have rifts.

Despite multiple clarifications from both players, reports of a rift between Rohit and Virat continue to surface. Kambli is the latest to jump on board, claiming on Koo on Thursday that things between two of India’s top cricketers aren’t going well.

Virat Kohli was controversially fired as India’s ODI captain in December 2021, and Rohit Sharma was named in his place. Selectors didn’t want “too much leadership” in white-ball cricket, according to the BCCI, so Virat was replaced as ODI captain. Virat had previously announced his resignation as India’s T20I captain, citing a desire to devote more time to 50-over and Test cricket.

Virat Kohli chose to leave his Test captaincy after being removed as ODI captain a month after resigning as T20I captain, shocking the cricketing world. It was rumoured at the time that things between Rohit and Virat were not going well and that this may have affected the latter’s decision to retire as captain.

Even as Rohit is captaining India in a three-match One-Day International series against the West Indies, Virat is a regular batter in the squad. Both players failed to score runs with the bat in the second ODI, but they did contribute in other ways, such as fielding and captaincy. On Wednesday, India won the second One-Day International by 44 runs, completing a 2-0 series victory. This was Rohit’s first full-time ODI series as captain, and he led India to victory.
