In a disturbing event, the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) sent three water supply bills to three deceased individuals who had formerly belonged to the Pioneer Cooperative Housing Society (PCHS), Panvel. The PCMC records were not altered in accordance with the requirements when they sold their apartments roughly 30 years ago. In the names of Jamunabai Salvi, R R Sardana, and Chandrakant Bhoke (Bhole), who each had water bills with outstanding balances of Rs 30,891, Rs 26,859, and Rs 20,811, respectively, more than a week ago, PCMC served the water bills.

The three apartments subsequently underwent a variety of resales. These apartments were destroyed in the beginning of 2014 when PCHS underwent reconstruction. Before approving the start of construction, the PCMC had paid off all past due debts, but it never increased the outstanding water bills. Around the end of October 2022, PCHS received invoices against the deceased folks out of the blue. “Over the last three decades, the PCMC has never increased the outstanding water taxes. Due to the fact that no one is living, it is unclear how the debt will be paid.

They are no longer CHS members, and we do not have their contact information or address. According to Jyotsna Joshi, chairman of PCHS, “The PCMC had altered their property tax records several times by inserting names of the new unit buyers as and when applied. As many as seven unpaid water bills, some of which were incurred during redevelopment-related construction phases when no CHS members were present, have been sent to us by the PCMC water tax department, according to Malati Tawde, secretary of the PCHS.

“However neither water supply owner nor the subsequent flat buyers applied to us for a name change. Our departments for water supply, property taxes, etc. also failed to tell us. Ravindra Chaunkar, PCMC’s HOD-water tax, stated, “Let the PCHS respond.
