The World Trade Center To Navi Mumbai Costs ₹270, Bus Commuters Are Shocked by the NMMT Ticket Price

Published

on

Office workers who take the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses to the World Trade Center via the freeway have frequent traffic jams, especially at the Vashi toll plaza and Eastern Freeway, which causes delays in getting to work.

The commuters requested frequent, regular NMMT bus service to the World Trade Center (WTC) via the Mumbai Trans harbour Link Road, popularly known as Atal Setu, to escape everyday inconveniences.

Early last month, NMMT distributed a form to commuters asking for feedback on their proposed bus service from Navi Mumbai to WTC via Atal Setu. This was done in response to passenger demand and in an effort to compete with the “Chalo AC” bus service offered by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking and other private operators from Navi Mumbai to Colaba/Mantralaya.

In keeping with their pledge, NMMT launched two new bus services that travel from Navi Mumbai via Atal Setu. On September 12, 2024, buses No. 116 from the Nerul Bus Depot and No. 117 from Sector 35 in Khargar. The ticket prices of Rs. 230 for route No. 116 and Rs. 270 for route No. 117 surprised and horrified the anxiously awaiting passengers who were planning to travel to WTC via Atal Setu.

A small number of passengers began getting off the bus as soon as they realized the price was too expensive. Many commuters complained that the NMMT bus service costs nearly twice as much as private bus companies and Chalo, making it unaffordable for the average middle-class individual.

If the NMMT refuses to lower the fares to match those of private bus companies, it will have to quickly end operations due to a lack of customer demand.
