An Ulwe woman who was attempting to retrieve her stolen purse from a Nigerian woman ultimately assisted law enforcement in seizing narcotics valued at Rs 43 lakh. Ulwe resident Shamshad Begum had used an app on Saturday to get an auto rickshaw from CBD Belapur.

She discovered that she had left her handbag in the car after getting down. When she contacted the driver of the vehicle, he informed her where she had gotten out and that a Nigerian woman had entered the vehicle after she had exited. In the event that she chooses to approach the police, the car driver further assured her that he would also be at the location to serve as a witness.

“When I got there, I saw the woman exiting a building. Where was my purse, I questioned her. I replied that I had left my purse in the auto rickshaw when she asked me again which one I had. I even asked her to return the purse as it included my ATM cards, but she was still allowed to keep the money. However, she shoved me away and took off running,” Begum said.

Begum rushed after the woman, alerting a few of the guys who were riding past and requesting that they stop her. The woman was pursued by onlookers to a furniture store, when the owner dialled 911. The woman was surrounded by onlookers as she tried to toss something into the store’s restroom. as the police apprehended her, they discovered that the object was really capsules of cocaine valued at Rs 43 lakh.

The woman from Nigeria was recognized as 25-year-old Alisha Kem, and the police took her into custody. She was then brought to the third-floor residence in sector 17 for Punchnama on Monday, and she made an effort to escape out of the flat’s kitchen window. She escaped via the kitchen window, using the pipeline to go to the first story before jumping, but the cops caught her again.

“After she tried to escape from detention, a second case was filed after she was initially arrested for narcotics possession. Senior police inspector Anjum Bagwan of the Nhava Sheva police station stated, “We are looking into who she was trying to sell the drugs to and where she got them.”

Begum has been afraid that something might go wrong with her, even though the police have only been kind to her. “People in the area have been frightening me, but my spouse has assured me that society has benefited as a result of me. I haven’t eaten or slept since last Saturday,” she said.

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
