Eid procession in Navi Mumbai may be postpone if it coincides with Ganesh Visarjan.

The Visarjan

If the celebration of Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, Eid-e-Milad, falls on the final day of the 10-day Ganpati celebration, it is likely to be delayed by one day in Navi Mumbai. The declaration was made on Thursday by the imam of Garib Nawaz Masjid during a peace meeting that the Navi Mumbai Police had called to the Marathi Sahitya hall in Vashi.

Representatives from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the public works department, the fire department, office bearers from many Ganesh mandals, and Muslim clerics attended the meeting.

“The procession held during Eid-e-Milad would be postponed as the dates are likely to overlap with Ganesh Visarjan, to guarantee that all festivals are done harmoniously and peacefully,” declared imam Mohammad Khalilullah Subhani. The imam mentioned that a meeting would be held in the Khilafat house in Byculla to address the issue, and then a formal statement will be issued. September 17 is Ganpati festival’s last day; depending on the moon’s position, While, September 16 is probably when Eid-e-Milad is held.

It was proposed that we forgo any celebration on the ninth day as well, as it is the day of various ceremonial events related to the Ganesh festival. This would guarantee calm and harmony, stated community leader Iqbal Kaware, who was present at the meeting on Thursday. Starting at Turbhe and passing through Vashi and Koparkhairane, the Navi Mumbai Eid-e-Milad procession concludes at Ghansoli Dargah. To promote communal harmony, the Muslim community has volunteered to reschedule their march to honor the event for the second year in a row.

“The Muslim community has volunteered to reschedule their religious activities so that the immersion process takes place smoothly, just like last year,” stated Pankaj Dahane, the deputy commissioner of police for zone 1. “The communities’ amazing demonstration of harmony and cohabitation is impressive. Navi Mumbai has always taken the initiative to make sure that everyone observes their holidays in love and tranquility.

Hindu representatives also praised the plan, noting that while it would be great if the two faiths could celebrate their holidays together, delaying the parade would help prevent unfortunate events.

According to Nilesh Patil, president of the Agri Koli Youth Foundation, “the Muslim community’s willingness to reschedule their celebration is commendable and if this gets formal sanction, it will cement the bond between the two communities further.”
