The day following the violence JNU issued a caution to students

On Monday, a day after student riots at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, the university stated that “it has a zero-tolerance policy against any type of violence.” It further cautioned students to “avoid any event that disrupts the peace and tranquility on (the) campus.” “Anyone found engaging in such behavior will face disciplinary punishment under university regulations,” says the statement “It was highlighted.

Amid the uproar surrounding the event, the Vice-Chancellor paid a visit to the dormitory, which was at the core of the violence, and talked with students on Monday. “Security has been requested to be cautious in preventing such indents and to report any such incidents to the administration as soon as possible,” “The registrar of JNU issued a statement.

On Sunday, two student organizations – a left-wing student union and the RSS-linked ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) – accused each other of inciting violence on campus and uploaded videos and images to back up their accusations on social media.

Aishe Ghosh, head of the JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union), said that members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) caused a riot and beat members of the Kaveri Hostel mess over chicken cooking. In response to the allegations, the ABVP stated that a Ram Navami prayer ritual was disrupted by Left-wing student unions chanting slogans.

At least 6 teenagers were hurt as a result of the incident, which caused widespread outrage.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police said that they had filed a first information report (FIR) against unidentified Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members. “In the early hours of April 11, 2022, we got a complaint from a group of students who are members of JNUSU, SFI, DSF, and AISA against unknown ABVP students. As a result, we have filed an FIR under Indian Penal Code section 323/341/509/506/34. The investigation is continuing to gather factual, scientific data and identify the perpetrators.”

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
