FOB at Sector 9, Vashi eases pedestrian movement, reduces road accidents.
The Bridge
After a protracted delay, the eagerly anticipated Foot-Over-Bridge (FOB) at Sector 9, Vashi, has now opened to the public, offering much-needed respite to the locals and shoppers. The project was originally scheduled to be finished in August, but the COVID-19 epidemic and other unanticipated obstacles caused several interruptions. The neighborhood has embraced the FOB, which is now fully operational with elevators added, and it is already improving pedestrian safety.
The bridge, which is expected to cost around Rs 2.44 crores, is intended to make it easier for pedestrians to cross the congested road, particularly in Sector 9’s crowded marketplace. Given the high volume of traffic in the region, the new infrastructure has improved safety by lowering the likelihood of traffic accidents.
“This bridge is a boon to the residents of this area, and it’s better late than never,” said Sector 9 resident Radhika Kavinde, expressing her happiness. Without worrying about approaching traffic, my kids and I can cross the street securely. These days, we utilize it a lot.
Another local, Amol Desai, praised the elevators’ considerate installation, particularly for senior citizens. Lift installation was a wise decision on the part of NMMC. My elderly parents, who spend every evening in the public garden across the street, find it extremely beneficial. The elevator is roomy and simple to use. It’s safe since the tiles are non-slip and tactile,” he added.
Another resident, Indrajit Das, emphasized the advantages of accessibility for different groups. “Pedestrians may cross the bridge more readily, and sellers with bulky bags will find it quite easy. Elderly people and youngsters can also benefit from it. This bridge has been long anticipated, and its arrival has improved the safety and convenience of our everyday trips.
