As part of the ‘Swachh Survekshan 2024’, the Sports and Cultural Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is organizing a competitive activity named ‘Swachhta Dindi’ with the goal of fostering in young minds the principles of cleanliness and environmental protection. The traditional dindis, a prominent aspect of Maharashtra culture, are the source of inspiration for this endeavor. They are observed on Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi.

Schools in the Navi Mumbai region, both private and municipal, are welcome to enter the tournament. Participants will discuss a range of cleanliness-related topics, including as trash segregation, the outlawing of single-use plastic, mangrove preservation, the cleaning and preservation of water bodies, Majhi Vasundhara events, and the beauty of Navi Mumbai.

In order to participate in the competition, educational institutions must host Swachhta Dindi on their grounds between July 15 and July 20. To be able to share the event’s photos on social media, participants must tag the official NMMC accounts in the photos and take pictures using their Google location. Applications can also be sent offline in the required format to the Deputy Commissioner, Sports and Cultural Affairs office of Abhilasha Patil at NMMC Headquarters.

On August 5 and 6, 2024, at Vishnudas Bhave Natyagruh, school groups will compete in preliminary rounds sans costumes. The last round, complete with costumes and performances, will happen at the same location on August 8, 2024. The act, which might include Bhajan, Kirtan, Powada from Wari, or any other traditional art form delivering a social message, will be presented by each school in seven minutes.

Along with medals and diplomas, the winners of the Swachhta Dindi competition will earn Rs 25,000 for first place, Rs 20,000 for second place, and Rs 15,000 for third place. In addition, a special reward for Dindi decorating and two consolation prizes of Rs 5,000 each will be given out.

Through a variety of welfare programs, the NMMC hopes to improve performance while fostering the innate talents of young athletes, artists, and youngsters in the Navi Mumbai region. Leading the charge on this creative strategy is Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, who uses Dindi and other traditional cultural media to instill in schoolchildren the value of hygiene and environmental care.
