Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is ordered by the Central Government today to vacate her official accommodation in Delhi’s Lodhi Road in a month’s time, reported ANI. This decision came following the withdrawal of her Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover since November last year.

In its order, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs mentioned, Consequent upon withdrawal of SPG protection and grant of Z-plus security cover by Ministry of Home of Affairs, which does not have provision for allotment/retention of Government accommodation on security grounds to you, the allotment of Type 6B house no. 35 Lodhi Estate, New Delhi is hereby cancelled w.e.f 01/-07/2020. One month concessional period on the same rent ie up to 01.08.2020 is allowed as per rules.”

The letter further added that on staying beyond the stipulated date i.e. August 1, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will have to pay a penalty as per the governing rules. And as per records, she is asked to pay the dues of Rs.3.46 lakhs as on June 30, 2020, which she will have to clear before vacating the place.

In November 2019 the Centre withdrew SPG security cover to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her children, Lok Sabha member Rahul Gandhi and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and replaced it with Z-plus security by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) which doesn’t call for a facility of official accommodation barring some highly special cases as based on the recommendations given by Home Ministry.

Undoubtedly a remarkable and significant move!

It is to be noted here that SPG is a first-class armed force comprised of 3,000 strong personnel providing proximate security to our Honourable Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi. It is a special protocol only accorded to the prime minister. It was formed in April 1985, after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in October 1984. Congress leaders, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were given SPG protection in 1991 following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
