Potholes on Navi Mumbai Roads Cause Severe Traffic Chaos

In Navi Mumbai, potholes are causing terrible traffic and upsetting commuters.

The Traffic

Navi Mumbai’s motorists are facing daily hardships as potholes across major roads disrupt smooth travel and trigger frequent traffic jams. Key arterial stretches, including the Sion-Panvel Highway, Thane-Belapur Road, and the Airport Road between Belapur and Ulwe, have deteriorated badly due to the ongoing monsoon.

Commuters complain that potholes not only slow down movement but also damage vehicles and increase the risk of accidents. Several motorists expressed anger at the lack of timely repair work, especially with the upcoming Ganesh festival, when smooth transportation of idols and heavy festive traffic will be critical.

At Uran Phata near Nerul, bus passengers are particularly inconvenienced as services are delayed or rerouted, adding to commuter woes. Many residents feel that despite repeated complaints, civic authorities have failed to act promptly.

Officials from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) have acknowledged the issue. City engineer Shirish Aradwad said continuous rains have delayed road repairs, making patchwork difficult. He assured that once the weather improves, temporary filling and repair work would begin on priority.

Meanwhile, frustrated motorists and residents are demanding swift action to avoid further chaos during the festive season. With traffic snarls already stretching for hours, there is growing concern that unless immediate measures are taken, the situation may worsen in the coming weeks.

Potholes and damaged roads to be fixed on key routes used for Ganesh idol processions and immersions.

The Repairs

With Ganeshotsav just around the corner, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has stepped up efforts to make city roads safer and smoother for residents and devotees.

NMMC Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has directed officials to inspect damaged roads and take up urgent repairs, with priority being given to routes that will witness the movement of large Ganesh idols and immersion processions.
