In response to the suspension of a sub-inspector and six constables for providing special treatment to the Wadhawan brothers, who were arrested in the Yes Bank financial fraud case, while escorting them from Taloja jail to hospitals in Mumbai, the police commissioner of Navi Mumbai has ordered the randomization of police escort teams. The deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) in Navi Mumbai has been instructed to distribute escort duty in cycles of six months. Additionally, we’ll install CCTV cameras in 20 police cars that are used to transport suspects.

To guarantee that the accused are not given preferential treatment, it would allow for live surveillance of the escort crew, according to DCP (HQ) Sanjay Patil. “To trace the patrol routes of on-duty police, GPS sensors have already been placed in 170 police vehicles. In August, a police squad transported the Wadhawan brothers from Taloja prison to JJ and KEM hospitals while GPS monitoring was being used to follow the police jeep, according to Patil. There was nothing odd because they followed the route exactly and arrived at the hospital without deviating, he claimed.

However, the exceptional treatment given to them was revealed by a TV channel’s undercover operation, which videotaped them in the hospital parking lot where police had let the accused to meet with family, have special meals in their own SUVs and use a laptop and a mobile. According to Patil, the mPolice app uses software created especially for the police department to randomly assign police escort squads. “The software will also be utilised as a “selfie-based patrolling module,” in which officers on duty will scan a QR code to verify their time of arrival for patrolling duties and the conclusion of their shift. The software is presently being used as a test project. To make sure that the accused are not being favoured by receiving preferential treatment from on-duty police, we will also be performing surprise checks at jails, courts, and hospitals. Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, the accused brothers and former DHFL proprietors, were detained by the Enforcement Directorate in 2020 in connection with the Rs 30,000 crore Yes Bank loan scam. Kapil was sent to the prison in Nashik after the sting operation.
