PM Modi talks about vaccine, frontline workers courage in Mann Ki Baat

On 25th April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in episode 76 of Mann Ki Baat. He began his speech by stating that Corona is testing the nation’s patience and the limit of every citizen to endure misery. He also acknowledged that the second wave of the coronavirus has shaken the country. He said, “After successfully confronting the first wave of Corona, the country was full of enthusiasm, full of self-confidence, but this storm has shaken the country.”

Prime minister aforementioned that the specialists from different sectors, including the vaccine manufacturers, pharma industry, oxygen producers, and experts from the medical field, have put forth their suggestions to the Government. While highlighting the importance of expert and scientific guidance, he added, “The Government of India is applying its entire might to give a fillip to the endeavours of State Governments. The State Governments are also trying their best to fulfill their responsibilities.”

PM Modi also urged people to get vaccinated. During a discussion with Dr. Naveed Nazeer Shah, a professor at the Government Medical College in Srinagar, PM mentioned vaccine hesitancy among a certain group of people in the country. Dr. Shah said that they noticed a lot of covid infected patients were showing no symptoms. Close to 90-95% of the patients recovered without medication, he said. “if we maintain physical distance and avoid social gathering, we can carry on with our daily work and keep ourselves protected from this infection too,” he added. Talking about the vaccine, no vaccine can provide 100% safety from the coronavirus disease. It takes time to build immunity in the body; thus, it is important to stay home and avoid contact with people as much as possible.

Towards the end of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi wished everyone on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti and urged them to follow the guidelines for coronavirus amid upcoming festivals including Ramzan, Buddha Purnima, and 400th Prakash Parv of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He again requested everyone not to panic, as it worsens health, and urged everyone to get vaccinated. “We will soon prevail together over this calamity,” he said.

Navi Mumbai Police Arrest African National With Rs 1 Crore Worth Of Cocaine In Ulwe

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Navi Mumbai Police arrested Jeorge Ocante DaSilva, a 35-year-old native of Guinea, on Monday for possessing 410 grams of cocaine, allegedly intended for illegal sale. Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.

Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.

An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.

Thane Sees Surge of Nomination Filings for 2024 Vidhan Sabha Election

The final day for filing nominations for the 2024 Vidhan Sabha General Election witnessed a surge of candidates in Thane district, with a total of 281 applications submitted across 18 assembly constituencies. This high turnout signals a competitive race for seats in the upcoming election.

Among the nominees, 114 candidates represent various political parties, while 167 have filed as independents, reflecting a diverse array of participants aiming to represent Thane’s voters.
