Panvels firefighting infrastructure will be upgraded

Published

on

PCMC’s general body has approved a proposal to improve the city’s firefighting capabilities. It would shortly purchase Rs 15.85 crore worth of firefighting equipment. The municipal government plans to purchase five fire engines, as well as contemporary firefighting equipment, to improve the city’s firefighting infrastructure, which is lacking in comparison to other nearby municipalities. The area under PCMC has seen enormous growth in recent years, with several high-rises springing up that require advanced fire-fighting equipment to handle emergencies. The municipal government, on the other hand, lacks firefighting equipment. In reality, there have been several fires where other government authorities were called in to help.

PCMC currently has inadequate firefighting equipment at its Old Panvel fire station and relies primarily on Cidco, MIDC, TMC, and NMMC in the event of a serious fire. According to civic authorities, the PCMC jurisdiction spans 110 square kilometers, and the current network is insufficient to meet the demand. Tenders for the new equipment will be issued soon. Multipurpose fire engines, quick intervention vehicles, multipurpose turn table landers, and water tankers will be purchased by the city authority. Cidco has fire stations in Kharghar, Kalamboli, and New Panvel at the moment. However, people in the Taloja and Kamothe nodes have been calling for new fire stations.

Firefighting equipment should also be useful in slums, according to politicians from all political parties. According to Paresh Thakur, the leader of the house, 29 villages within the corporation’s control will soon have fire-fighting systems. “The tendering procedure will take a few weeks after the equipment acquisition,” a city official stated.
