One hard slap in Navi Mumbai exposes an extortion gang

Published

on

A guy and his accomplice have been detained by the police for allegedly extorting Rs 52.41 lakh from the proprietor of a medical store in Navi Mumbai on the claim of supporting him. Two further accomplices who were on the run were also arrested by the Navi Mumbai police. Between April 2021 and November 19 of this year, when they were discovered red-handed taking payment, the accused intimidated the pharmacist.

50-year-old Rajesh Patel is the owner of the Navratna medical store in New Panvel. Milind Jadhav and Shravan Kumar Jaiswal were two of his employees. After spending six years working alongside him, Shravan opened a nearby pharmacy. With Patel’s list of clients and dealers, Shravan was able to successfully run his business. Patel frequently confided his troubles to Jadhav and was aware of how he was doing financially.

Jadhav’s brother-in-law Sadanand Vakurle spent some time in the pharmacy and came to know Patel. Patel confided his concerns to Sadanand in March 2021. Patel was informed by Sadanand that he would speak with Shravan and, if he didn’t listen, would issue a strong warning. Patel gave in to Sadanand’s request to speak with Shravan.

It begins with the slap

After a week, Sadanand Jadhav informed Patel that Shravan had been beaten and that he had filed a report with the Khandeshwar police station. Then, he wanted Rs. 5 lakh from Patel, claiming that he had gotten into difficulties due to Patel’s demands. They would tell the police that Patel had ordered the beating if the money was not paid.

One evening, Sadanand arrived at Patel’s home and demanded money, threatening to call the police if Patel didn’t comply. Patel offered Sadanand R3.5 lakh out of fear. On August 17, Sadanand compelled Patel to sign a check for Rs. 4.5 lakh while brandishing a gun. According to the authorities, Patel eventually sold one of his apartments to pay for the money after repeated requests. Patel decided to go to the police after losing Rs 52.41 lakh because Sadanand wanted another Rs 5 lakh.

Catching the accused

Samir Chaskar and Assistant Police Inspector Vitthal Pisal made the decision to catch the guilty while taking payment. “We requested Patel to bring Sadanand to a trap we had set up next to a mosque. The sidekick of Sadanand was pursuing him. We caught them both as Patel turned over the cash. Prathmesh Nanu Vakurle was named as the conspirator, according to API Vitthal Pisal.

According to the authorities, Patel paid Sadanand between April 2021 and November 2022. In accordance with IPC sections 384 (extortion), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 387 (putting a person in fear of death or great bodily harm in order to commit extortion), 506 part 2 (threat to cause bodily harm), and 34, a FIR was filed against four individuals (common intention). Two further suspects are missing. Total amount demanded: Rs. 52.41 lakh
