Night shelter in Ghansoli becomes operational.

The Center

The Ghansoli night shelter center finally opened its doors to give homeless people a place to stay after three years of waiting. On the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa, the three-story edifice, which had stood empty since its construction, got its first gleam of purpose. As the operational ceremony took place, social activist Nilesh Kachare’s continuous demands to the commissioner paid off, ushering in a new era for the impoverished.

The night shelter center, built by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), is a ray of hope for people who are homeless. The center, run by New Delhi-based Maa Aastha Samajik Vikas Seva Sanstha, seeks to improve the situation of the homeless. The organization and the local corporation will split the expense, guaranteeing that those in need of shelter receive aid at no cost.

The center’s first client was 65-year-old homeless resident Abdul Chacha. After taking a warm bath, changing into new clothing, and ceremoniously erecting the Gudi, Abdul Chacha set off on a trip of safety and luxury. In addition to providing refuge, the center provides its inhabitants with leisure amenities including television and carrom. Sufficient facilities, such as a refrigerator and healthcare services, are available to meet the requirements of the occupants.

Still, there are concerns about the night shelter’s capacity. Ghansoli now has 104 beds available, thus there is clearly a need for expansion. According to Supreme Court recommendations, there should be one shelter for every 500,000 urban people, which means Navi Mumbai urgently needs more facilities. There are now just two shelters that provide services to the whole population, which emphasizes how urgently this industry needs to grow.

Social activists who attended the inaugural event were Nurse Vaishali Dongre, Akshay Herode, Rahul Wade, Nilesh Kachare, Tarun Mishra, Nitin Mishra, Roshan Pandey, Vikas Zaa, and Rahul Wade. Their presence demonstrated the community’s support for this important endeavor.

Assistant Commissioner and Ghansoli ward officer Sanjay Tayde reaffirmed the municipal corporation’s pledge to keep a careful eye on the center’s activities.
