The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has set a new benchmark by collecting Rs 366.80 crore in property tax during the first quarter of the 2025–26 financial year—its highest ever for the period.

This historic achievement is the result of multiple proactive measures by the civic body, including doorstep bill delivery by women’s self-help groups, the use of digital payment platforms, mobile-based KYC updates, and a 10% rebate on general tax. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde praised the collective effort of citizens, officials, and ground-level staff for this success.

Of the 3.47 lakh registered taxpayers, over 1 lakh paid their dues within the quarter, with Rs 220 crore collected online. On the final day alone, collections crossed Rs 90 crore. The Nerul ward led the way, contributing Rs 74.13 crore. Notably, over 99,000 taxpayers availed the 10% rebate.

With an annual target of Rs 1,200 crore, NMMC continues to innovate its approach. In addition to earlier measures, the civic body has collaborated with Foxberry Technologies for analytics and citizen awareness campaigns.

Starting July 1, a 2% monthly penalty is being levied on late payments. Dr. Shinde urged residents to avoid penalties and support city development by ensuring timely tax payments.

The NMMC’s efficient tax collection strategy highlights its commitment to smart governance and citizen-centric services, setting an example for urban local bodies across the state.

Nashik’s Kumbh Mela to Feature High-Tech 4,000-Camera Security Network

Published

An advanced Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) will monitor the 2027 religious mega-event using artificial intelligence to ensure pilgrim safety.

The Cameras

As millions prepare to gather for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, authorities in Nashik are rolling out an unprecedented security initiative to keep the sprawling crowds safe. At the core of this effort is a massive deployment of over 4,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, all feeding live data into a single, centralized command centre.

The sheer scale of the Kumbh Mela, expected to attract upwards of 12 crore devotees, necessitates moving beyond traditional policing. The Nashik Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (NMSCDCL) is executing this high-tech surveillance network, carefully placing cameras across Nashik City, Trimbakeshwar, and vital rural parking hubs. Crucially, the system incorporates artificial intelligence designed to detect overcrowded zones in real-time, predict traffic flow, and spot potential safety hazards before they escalate.

This means that during peak days such as the massive Amrit Snan gatherings authorities stationed at the single command hub can instantly redirect crowds, deploy emergency medical teams, or ease traffic congestion based on live data. The camera network is further supported by 18 surveillance drones and an integrated public address system to communicate directly with pilgrims.

By treating the Kumbh Mela not just as a religious gathering but as a massive logistical undertaking, the new unified monitoring centre promises a safer, more organized experience, prioritizing the well-being of every devotee attending the sacred event.

CM Fadnavis Launches Statewide Crusade to Protect Students from Drug Menace

The “Campus Connect” initiative moves beyond policing, focusing on counseling, curriculum changes, and community support to build a drug-free future for Maharashtra’s youth.

The Initiative

Every morning, millions of parents in Maharashtra send their children off to school, hoping for their safety, growth, and success. Yet, the rising shadow of youth substance abuse has increasingly turned campuses into battlegrounds. Recognizing this silent crisis, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has unveiled the “Campus Connect” initiative a compassionate, community-driven mission to make every educational institution across the state entirely drug-free.

Rather than relying solely on police enforcement and punitive measures, the state is now treating addiction as a societal issue that requires empathy, awareness, and education. At the heart of the campaign are over 4,000 newly established guidance and counseling committees. Comprising teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals, these support groups aim to identify and gently guide vulnerable students before they fall deep into the trap of addiction.

To solidify this commitment, Fadnavis has personally written to school and college principals statewide, urging administrators to take active ownership of their students’ well-being. Across Maharashtra, students and educators are already taking collective pledges to look out for one another and report drug-related activities. Furthermore, the government is integrating mandatory de-addiction lessons into the school curriculum, ensuring children understand the dangers early on. For those already struggling, the initiative offers a lifeline. Partnering with local bodies like the Navi Mumbai Police, the state is expanding rehabilitation centers to provide specialized psychiatric counseling and medical care.

Ultimately, the “Campus Connect” drive is more than just a government mandate; it is a promise to families that Maharashtra’s schools will remain safe havens for learning, not spaces of despair.
