Shiv Sena activists gathered outside the home of Amravati Lok Sabha MP Navneet Rana in Mumbai on Saturday to protest her choice to perform Hanuman Chalisa with her husband, MLA Ravi Rana, outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s mansion, ‘Matoshree.’

According to reports, numerous Shiv Sainiks burst into the Khar, Mumbai, home of Amaravati MP Navneet Rana and her husband, MLA Ravi Rana, to protest the pair after they threatened to sing the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s home.

Shiv Sena activists also tried to break past the barriers at the home of Maharashtra MLA Ravi Rana and his wife, MP Navneet Rana.

“At approximately 8.45 a.m., enraged Shiv Sena members smashed over barriers set up around 50 metres from the Ranas’ residence in suburban Khar. They attempted to enter the residence. Shiv Sena supporters shouted chants in favour of Thackeray and challenged the couple to leave the house, according to the police source.

According to Mumbai Police, the situation was brought under control and the party workers were prevented from going any farther.

Navneet Rana, an independent Lok Sabha member from Amaravati, has previously challenged Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray to recite the Hanuman Chalisa. She also criticized Maharashtra’s Chief Minister for not paying a visit to the temple on Hanuman Jayanthi. She had also challenged Shiv Sena workers to stop them from chanting Hanuman Chalisa outside ‘Matoshree.’

On Friday morning, Navneet Rana and her husband arrived in Mumbai for the Hanuman Chalisa recital. Shiv Sena workers, on the other hand, assembled at several locations in Mumbai, including Matoshree, to threaten the Amaravati Lok Sabha MP and her husband with arrest if they recited the Hanuman Chalisa outside Matoshree. If Ranas showed up at the location, the party workers threatened to teach him a lesson.

To avoid any untoward developments, the police had stationed tight security outside Thackeray’s bungalow in the Kalanagar neighbourhood.

Later, a Mumbai Police squad led by DCP Manjunath Singe visited the Rana residence and served them with a notice issued by the Kherwadi police station under Section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). The police have asked people not to disturb the quiet and to maintain the law and order situation, according to the notice.
