Navi Mumbai’s Metro will be operational as the authorities attempts to obtain the dates of the PM

Published

The nodal body, City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco), which conceptualized the 11km Metro Line-1 Belapur to Pendhar in 2011, has not yet announced the much-awaited Navi Mumbai Metro’s commercial operating date. Despite the project being finished in every way, Cidco is unclear when it will be inaugurated because the state administration is attempting to convince Prime Minister Narendra Modi to do so.

While Cidco has chosen an event management agency business, after launching a contract, to oversee the inaugural show including the PM, sources indicate that PM Modi is likely to open Navi Mumbai Metro on October 30.

The Cidco engineering department has sent a communiqué to MahaMetro, the Navi Mumbai Metro operating agency, a copy of which is in the knowledge of a source. The communiqué requests that MahaMetro finalize the preparations for the October 30 inauguration, with a particular emphasis on passenger safety. According to sources, the inaugural event would take place close to Ulwe at the Navi Mumbai international airport. Assembly Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar claimed that the state administration is using delay tactics to secure Modi’s slot for the launch of such a significant project that will benefit the masses before the Lok Sabha election.

“We should be permitted to launch the Navi Mumbai Metro on our own if the government is not interested in doing so in order to save money for the taxpayers. In the past, between October 13 and October 17, the administration twice postponed the inauguration, he claimed.

In accordance with the letter sent to MahaMetro, Cidco has sent a team of engineers to conduct facility and station inspections as well as an evaluation of passenger safety protocols. Every station has a record of their results. MahaMetro has been asked to provide a compliance report along with the required corrections in response to the findings. In the meanwhile, Cidco has released a tender for the ground preparation work related to the planned PM visit, valued at Rs 3.2 crore. The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) certificate, which permits Cidco to operate line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar for commercial purposes, has been in effect for almost four months. The vice-chairman and MD of Cidco, Anil Diggikar, even rode the metro and promised to launch operations shortly.

Navi Mumbai Electoral Roll Update: Over 3.84 Lakh Voters Await Digital Verification

Published

Civic administration completes processing of forms received by August 18 as residents prepare to verify their registration status on upcoming draft lists.

The Verification

The Special Intense Revision (SIR) drive to update electoral rolls across Navi Mumbai concluded recently, with local authorities finalizing the initial round of data collection. Administrative records show that out of 9,19,697 registered voters across the Airoli and Belapur assembly constituencies, 5,35,214 enumeration forms were digitally processed. Meanwhile, approximately 3,84,483 forms remain pending in the digital registration phase.

Field reports indicate that verification teams faced various logistical challenges during door-to-door visits in neighborhoods like Ghansoli, Koparkhairane, Digha, and Turbhe. Unavailability of residents, locked homes, and delays in returning completed enumeration forms contributed to lower collection rates in specific pockets. In response, municipal authorities organized special local camps and coordinated with political representatives to boost outreach efforts before the submission deadline.

With initial form collection closed, civic officials clarified that additional submissions will no longer be accepted for this phase, shifting attention to the upcoming publication of the draft voter list.

Citizens looking to check their voter status or file corrections can visit the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra Portal or access the central Election Commission of India Voters’ Service Portal to verify their details, submit claims, or track upcoming electoral roll revisions.
