A Free Blood Group Screening Campaign For All NMMC School Students was launched by NMMC in Navi Mumbai
Free Blood Group Screening Campaign is to be held by NMMC so that every student knows their blood group for emergency situations.
The Campaign
Many Navi Mumbai Municipal Schools started initiating a thorough “Special Blood Group Screening Campaign” for all of its students as a proactive measure to improve student safety and emergency alertness. Under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Shree Rajesh Narvekar, this project is being carried out in compliance with the directives of the national government.
The main goal of the initiative is to register each student’s blood group information and personal information on a central portal. In the event of an emergency, this data will be extremely helpful in enabling healthcare providers to promptly obtain the information they need to deliver prompt and appropriate care. The program is scheduled to run from October 21 to October 27, 2023. It is a joint effort between the Education Department, directed by Deputy Commissioner Shree Dattatray Ghanwat, and the Health Department, under the direction of Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Prashant Jawade.
A total of 44,269 students will have their blood groups tested as part of the initiative. Pathologists from public hospitals in Vashi, Airoli, and Nerul who act as nodal authorities will be crucial for this procedure. To manage the program, they will collaborate with medical officials in charge of the National Child Health Program and laboratory technicians from their individual institutions.

Navi Mumbai Collects Nirmalya at Six Immersion Sites for Composting
Initiative turns floral offerings into compost and encourages residents to celebrate Ganeshotsav responsibly.
The Composite
As Ganeshotsav celebrations continue across the city, an eco-friendly initiative is helping ensure that religious offerings do not end up as waste. The Dr Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan is collecting nirmalya at six major Ganesh immersion sites in Navi Mumbai and sending it for composting.
The initiative encourages devotees to place flowers and other religious offerings in specially designated containers instead of throwing them into water bodies. Volunteers at the sites are collecting and separating the waste before sending the floral material for composting.
The collection drive is being carried out at Diwale Jetty, Belapur village lake, Nerul village lake, Chincholi Lake in Shiravane-Juinagar, Koparkhairane Dharan Lake and Airoli Creek Lake. During the immersion of 1.5-day Ganesh idols, around 1,485 kg of nirmalya was collected from these six locations. Airoli recorded the highest collection at 450 kg, followed by Koparkhairane with 320 kg.
The collected flowers will be converted into compost, which can later be used for tree plantation and maintaining greenery in the city. The drive will continue throughout the Ganesh immersion period, giving residents an easy way to dispose of religious offerings responsibly while helping keep Navi Mumbai’s water bodies and surroundings cleaner.
