Navi Mumbai will soon get a “Sainik Sankul”
On a 25,000 square foot building site at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, the Maharashtra Sainik Welfare Department will build “Sainik Sankul,” which will include a 400-seat hostel for the wards of ex-servicemen and a rest home. The new hostel will double the capacity of the current 50-seat dormitories for boys and girls from former military members’ families, and the rest house will contain an ex-servicemen contributory health system (ECHS) facility. According to department officials, the hostel project would significantly contribute to resolving the issue of ex-wards’ servicemen’s lack of housing when they travel to Mumbai for higher education.
Col. RR Jadhav (ret), the department’s deputy director, stated, “We have submitted a proposal to the state government indicating that the city and industrial development company (CIDCO) should carry out the building work. “We just met with CIDCO representatives, and they mostly agreed to work with us. We made a suggestion to the state administration in 2018. However, because to the Covid-19 pandemic limits, we were unable to complete the task. Now that the state government’s floor space index (FSI) policy has changed, we will request that CIDCO create a new project plan “Jadhav said. In 2017 the department paid the state government Rs 3 crore for 25 gunthas of land for the project. According to the officials, the area is adjacent to a future metro line station and is roughly 12 kilometres from the Navi Mumbai airport site. “We built a compound wall around the property allotment to safeguard it. The land is currently worth many crores. We thus strive to begin the work at the site as soon as possible, “Jadhav stated. The department intends to build a 25,000 square foot structure with seven stories. According to the administrators, it will contain both boys’ and girls’ dormitories, community, conference, and dining halls, as well as enough parking.
“All of the ex-logistical servicemen’s concerns would be taken care of by the planned facility. In Thane, we currently have a rest home facility. For many retired employees, using it becomes challenging, “on the condition of anonymity, a senior department official stated. According to Jadhav, the department would pay for the building out of the flag day cash it has gathered from every district in the state.
