Narali Poornima Was Observed With Celebrations In Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai celebrated Narali Poornima with festivities.

The Celebration

In Koliwada and around Navi Mumbai, the lively celebration of Narali Poornima was observed with traditional enthusiasm, uniting the locals in a colourful exhibition of devotion and cultural legacy. This year’s celebration included a vibrant parade to the tunes of Koli songs, coconut offerings to the sea, and the traditional launching of boats into the water, which intensified the anticipation of catching abundant fish in the upcoming months.

The Koli brothers’ passion is unwavering despite of the difficulties that urbanization and pollution have caused for the fishing community. Leading a magnificent parade, the Agri Koli community of Navi Mumbai delighted observers with the traditional hymn “Sun Ailai Go Ailai Go Narali Punvecha,” which was backed by the steady beat of drums.

Diwale Koliwada, Belapur, Karave, Sarsole, Vashi village, Juhugaon, Bonkode, Koperkhairane, Talvali village, Diva Koliwada, Airoli village, and Nerul village were among the places where festivities took place. The sight of eight hundred to nine hundred boats going out to fish in Sarsole village and Diwale Koliwada was evidence of the festival’s significance. Up to 400 boats set sail in Diwale Koliwada alone, demonstrating the strong cultural ties to the water.

The festive atmosphere of the celebration was the opposite of the difficulties the local fishing sector faced. The building of new bridges and airport expansions, together with other urban development projects, have negatively impacted fish reproduction and resulted in a 30% decrease in capture rates. The issue has been made worse by chemical contamination from industrial estates, which has caused many fishermen to return empty-handed. Kolvani Friends President Manoj Meher emphasized these urgent issues.

Fishermen at Sarsole Jetty received life jackets from the Sandeep Naik Foundation in response to the safety risks brought on by choppy waters. Sandeep Naik, the president of the BJP Navi Mumbai District, along with former corporator Suraj Patil and other dignitaries, attended the effort, which aims to safeguard the safety of fishermen traversing the treacherous seas during the festival.
