MCZMA gives the Navi Mumbai coastline road its approval

Published

The primary route linking Navi Mumbai and Mumbai will be the Mumbai Trans harbour Link and Sewri Nhava Connector. The Kharghar coastal road’s development has also received approval from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA). The City and Industrial Development Corporation will work on both of these projects (CIDCO). The MZMA approved the final link between Sector 15 of the CBD and the Water Transport Terminal, Nerul, as well.

The Navi Mumbai Development Plan, created by CIDCO, divides 95 villages into 14 thoughtfully constructed and self-sufficient nodes. The coastal road also seeks to relieve congestion on the Sion-Panvel Expressway by diverting local intra-city traffic away from it. The minutes from the MCZMA meeting, which took place on December 7, were made public this week. It was indicated that this will have an impact on 2,01,857 sq metres of CRZ 1 A land as well as 62,349 sq metres of land with mangroves.

influence on the environment

According to a study, the mangroves close to the site are mostly Avicennia Marina (grey or white mangrove) on each side of the stream. The project’s effects on the local fishing community were also covered by the MCZMA.

Considering ecology

During the study, wader colonies, including flamingos and brown-headed gulls, were seen in the creek at low tide. The wetlands were home to a total of 72 kinds of birds, including 24 residents and 48 migratory species.

The CIDCO was instructed to ensure that operations are carried out with extreme caution to have the least possible impact on the nearby mangroves and coastal ecosystem while proposing the project. They were instructed to make sure that every effort was made to minimise the coastal road’s impact on the mangrove region.

Construction of a bridge over the Taloja River has been given the green light by MCZMA Navi Mumbai, allowing access to the city’s Kharghar and Pendhar neighbourhoods. This would assist in easing traffic congestion at the intersection of Shilphphilly Road and Kalamboli Road, which leads to the Dombivli and Kalyan Industrial and Housing Area.

The current system was put in place following the events of September 11th, and it operated from containers. To prevent obstructing the view of the Gateway, a height limit of 5.10 metres has been put in place. The development of a security chowki for visitors to the Gateway of India has also been approved by the MCZMA. The BMC is constructing the new chowki. After the events of September 11, 2001, a security system was put in place, and it operated out of containers.
