Job-seekers from other states were caught up in a job-seeking racket
Three people were nabbed on Tuesday in Ahmedabad for allegedly defrauding 81 candidates from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat out of Rs 3.25 crore under the guise of obtaining their government employment, police said.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch uncovered a plot involving a tutoring center to defraud candidates by offering them positions in the police, military, tax department, civic body, and other government agencies, according to an official.
A Crime Branch announcement stated that papers such as application forms, admission cards, fee receipts, passport size pictures, Xerox copies of original documents, and certificates were confiscated from the custody of two accused operating in a coaching center in Dahegam town.
Premvir Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), stated the suspect’s utilized forged documents and stamps to persuade the candidates that they had passed a physical exam.
“They’d seek Rs 10 lakh for a PSI position, Rs 5 lakh for a policeman job, Rs 5 lakh for a talati-cum-mantri job, Rs 2.5 lakh for a junior clerk job, Rs 3.5 lakh for Army soldiers, and Rs 1.5 lakh for a municipal council clerk job,” he claimed.

According to documents recovered from them, ten candidates were shown to have passed the physical test for police LRD (constable) recruitment despite not having filled out any forms, and three candidates were shown to have passed the physical test using a fake “pass” stamp despite failing the test, Singh told.
Ravi Pratap Rawat, a resident of Ajmer in Rajasthan, Harish Prajapati, and Puja Thakor were detained, he said, adding that two others were on the run in the case.
Parts 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), and other provisions of the Indian Penal Code, as well as sections of the Information Technology Act, have been filed against them.

Acting on a tip-off, API Alka Patil of the AHTU led a raid at RM Heights Building in Ulwe, where DaSilva was found in possession of the narcotics.
Around 2:30 p.m. on October 28, officers discovered 410 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 1,02,50,000, hidden in DaSilva’s bedroom. Authorities also seized a mobile phone, a black Tabata weighing scale, scissors, plastic packaging bags, and a sky bag, bringing the total seizure value to Rs 1,02,55,610.
An FIR was filed at Panvel City Police Station under Sections 8(a) and 21(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Dasilva was presented in court and remanded to police custody until October 31, 2024. Investigations are ongoing, with the Crime Branch seeking potential accomplices and sources of the narcotics. Notably, Dasilva has a prior NDPS case registered at Nahar Police Station in Mumbai.
